Getting your pup to come to you on command.

The Come command is one of the first training steps to start with. It allows you to do two things at once ~ 1) You are introducing your pup to their name & 2) Working the command for your pup to come to you.

If you are using a leash in this exercise, every time you want to call the dog towards you, a gentle motion of pulling the leash towards you should aid you in getting the message across.

If you are using a food/snack method you can offer the treats as you call the pup's name. The pup will/can associate this activity with eating everytime their name is called. We recommend some of the other times you do not offer a food treat. It is suggested that you greet your pup with a pet or a stroke. This gives them the understanding that something good comes from me coming when my name is called.

Sit

The most common command that most will use with a dog.

We all have called upon the command to sit. It is an easy action once you can teach it to the pup. Starting at an early age allows the puppy to catch on without much of a hiccup.

Our puppies hang out with us quite a bit. When they do, in order for them to get a treat from us, we require them to sit. We will place a hand on the rear-end and another on their shoulder blade area (so to show our puppies to not move forward) and express to them that we want them to sit.

The practice is like baseball...(3 strikes) 3 attempts with your dog. The first time (sit), we present the command. The second time (sit), give them time to acknowledge what was said. The third time (sit), we are gently showing the pup physically what we mean by the command sit. This can be accomplished quickly. Repeating this often will make this the puppy's number one command.
